Post-doctoral training in Stem Cell Biology at the Paterson Institute of Cancer research, Christies’s Hospital, Manchester, U.K. Visiting Scientist at the School of Health Sciences, Denver, Colorado, U.S.A and Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. Served as Head of the Department of Chemotherapy and Stem Cell Biology, Cancer Research Institute, Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, India over 26 years (1972 to 1998)

Previously headed the Department of Chemotherapy and Stem Cell Biology at Cancer Research Institute, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Dr. Rao was instrumental in India’s first bone marrow transplant asking with Dr. Advani at TMH. He set up the first cord blood banking centre in India at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He also set up the first private cord blood banking centre in India. Dr. Rao has been awarded the ICMR Award for his contribution to the field of stem cell research. He brings in more than 50 years of experience and expertise in cell biology and cancer research as well as translational research in both the public and private sector.

Served as Research Director, Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank, Reliance Life Sciences, Mumbai, India (1998 to 2000). Founder-Director of Cryostemcell Karnataka Pvt. Ltd. (2003 to 2010) Founder-Director of Sri Raghavendra Biotechnologies Pvt. Ltd. (2000 till present) Founder-Director of International Stemcell Services Ltd, Bangalore (2009 till present).

Completed her M. Sc in Immunology from KEM Hospital, Mumbai before getting a scholarship to do her M. S, Immunology and Cell Biology from University of Arkansas Medical Sciences, USA. She was featured in the 1993 edition of the prestigious Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges® Dr. Jyothsna has a PhD in Immunology from National Centre for Biological Sciences/ SASTRA University. Serving as Founder Director and Research Director of International Stemcell Services Ltd, Bangalore, Dr. Jyothsna has worked at prestigious institutions such as Cornell Medical Center, NYC and has the distinction of being mentored by Nobel Laureate, Dr. Ralph Steinman, in the field of cancer immunobiology.

He has over 15 years of research experience in the biotechnology field especially in
molecular biotechnology, gene therapy, stem cell biology, protein chemistry, and neurobiology. Dr. Rao was awarded a scholarship to do his M.S / Ph.D in Gene Delivery from the prestigious School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and completed his Ph. D work with stalwarts Dr. Dhiren Thakker and Dr. Jude Samulski, renowned gene therapy researcher known for his pioneering work in AAV gene vectors. Dr. Rao went on to do research in neurobiology, gene delivery, Alzheimer’s and age-related memory loss at the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. Dr. Rao has published several papers and has several patents. Presently serving as Managing Director of International Stemcell Services Ltd.

Regional Director for Head Neck Surgical Oncology & Robotic Surgery & Associate Dean for Research and Academics at Centre of Academic Research, HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru. He is a member of consultative group to Principal Scientific Advisor, Govt of India.

TEDx speaker and innovator of the Aum Voice Prosthesis – low cost speaking device for throat cancer. He has 18 patents – medical devices, drugs, techniques and theories. Recipient of:

  • Honorary FRCS by the Royal College of Surgeons Glasgow
  • Judy Wilkenfeld award for Global excellence in tobacco control 2017.
  • Kempegowda Award – highest civil award conferred by the Bengaluru Ministry
  • Varshada Kannadiga Award 2018 (Kannadiga of the Year) Science and Technology

More than 70 national and international publications. He is Technical Director for Partnership for Healthy Cities an initiative by W.H.O with Bloomberg philanthropies – He is a member.

He is presently editor of Journal of precision oncology and has more than 100 national and international publications to his credit, and is a reviewer for 10 international journals. He is an international advisor to World Health Organisation Tobacco Free Initiatives (Bloomberg) partners in collaboration with state and union government to implement the WHO FCTC-Framework convention for Tobacco Control through National Tobacco control program.

He has been a visiting faculty to John Hopkins University leadership programs. He is a member of High-Powered committee on tobacco control and cancer control Govt of Karnataka. He is also member of NCD Task for Bengaluru city. He is also the In-charge coordinator union for international cancer control at HCG. He serves as the Chair of Ethics committee on Biotech with govt of Karnataka, Dept of IT & BT and member of ICMR ethics committee.

Has a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from University of Poona in 1993. Joined Syngene (biocon group) since its inception in 1994 in Bangalore, India. Established the Chemistry CRO at Syngene and lead the team as VP and CSO until August 2006. He then co-founded Anthem Biosciences in 2006 along with Ravindra and other colleagues.

He has over 25+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Vast experience in medicinal chemistry, process research and development. Recent interests include green chemistry and applying it to chemistry scale up programs. He has over 25 publications and over 100 patents. Established research collaborations with several biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in Europe and USA.

He did his B. Tech., in Chemical Engineering from Bangalore University and has worked in large pharmaceutical companies like CIPLA, RECON, BIOCON in various lead roles. He has gathered over 30 years of hard core pharmaceutical industrial experience. He was instrumental in setting up state of the art research and manufacturing facilities and getting them through the USFDA and European regulatory approvals. Has worked with scientific staff and technocrats and brought several first-time generic molecules to market in India and for rest of the world market. Has experience in working with several big pharma companies in assisting their new drug discovery programs from early stage to commercial volumes. He Co-founded Anthem Biosciences in 2006 along with Dr. Ganesh and other colleagues.
